Unit Description
Students build machine confidence through a functional small project. They learn seams, seam finishes, hems, pressing, topstitching, closures, and quality control.
Historic Notes
Seam finishes tell stories about available tools, fabric value, and expected garment life. Hand-felled seams, French seams, bound seams, serged seams, and industrial overlocking each reflect different eras, technologies, and production priorities.
Contemporary Uses
Quality construction matters in clothing, outdoor gear, costume, uniforms, bags, upholstery, and alteration work. Even mass-produced clothing uses seam choices to balance cost, speed, strength, comfort, and appearance.

Task
